Hello:

In California, there are several positions such as Grad Legal Assistant or Legal Analyst (sounds like a paralegal) with the State that require an examination. The exam has questions requiring the applicant to rank their skills, knowledge, experience, etc. on a 4-5 point scale (I don't remember exactly). If you give yourself high marks you are saying that you possess expert knowledge and are capable of teaching others. At the end of the exam you are given a score which must be higher than 70 percent to be eligible for the position. Each applicant is ranked according to this score.

Has anyone here participated in a California State Exam like this? How did you rate yourself? What were your results?

This is more akin to a law clerk position waiting for bar results than to a paralegal.

You need to rate yourself as highly as possible but you must be able to justify your rating if ever asked about it.

Many applicants get disqualified because they rate themselves too low.
