Labor and Employment to General Lit or Corporate Transactions

Working at a big law labor and employment firm. It recently came to my attention that the partner compensation is at the low end of the compensation spectrum. Could someone with say, 2 yrs exp, lateral to another big law firm in town and slowly phase out of Labor and Employment work and gravitate to a more lucrative practice area? Any anecdotes?

What gives you the impression that partnership is a possibility? If partnership is possible, partnership at a firm with lower comp is likely better (in terms of comp) than no partnership at a higher paying firm.

This does not address my question, thank you for stating something obvious.

I recently lateraled at the junior level and found that practice group distinctions within my same broad category (litigation) were pretty meaningless. If your L&E experience means you acquired generally transferrable junior skills (discovery, depo prep, interview prep, motion writing, trial prep, etc.) then you should be in an alright place to transfer to a different lit group at a different firm. If you've spent two years doing really niche stuff it will be harder.

I suspect to go to transactional you will need to offer to hit the reset button completely, and that will be harder to get a firm to bite on.

Hilarious reason to want to lateral.

Up there with thinking your coworkers don't like you because you're so good looking.
