Transition from Capital Markets to Litigation

Hi all,
I am a graduate of a T14 Law school and a 2nd year associate at a magic circle firm in London in the capital markets group. While I really like the people I work with, I do not find capital markets work fulfilling and would be unhappy with the exit options available. As such, I am looking to transition my practice to litigation (my 1L summer was litigation-oriented) and move back to the states (probably NYC given the market).
I have read a few of the threads on here already about transitioning, but I'm wondering if anyone has any anecdotal experience of people successfully making this transition, especially from abroad. How common/possible is it to make this transition at this stage in my career? Other than litigation pro-bono and CLE's is there anything else I could do to make myself an attractive candidate for litigation? Is it too early to apply to any open litigation positions? Is there any way to leverage my current experience into a specific area of litigation (i.e. does it matter that I have experience doing transactional work)? Any general advice or thoughts would be very much appreciated.
