Waiting game

if you haven't yet heard from a firm in NY post-CB, is it safe to assume ding? Worth follow up email to recruiting?
I haven't heard from at least one firm, which sent a follow-up email two weeks later telling me to hang on.
What would "assuming a ding" change about your behavior? If nothing, maybe it's not worth an email. If it will seriously affect your decision-making process, yes, you might as well email and ask.
