So I got a CB on friday. I set the date for Sept 28. Im now thinking this is really far away.. should I call and reschedule for next week??

Not sure how that would work logistically but if you can you definitely should. Earlier the better.

OP here. Are biglaw firms still doing CBs that late in Sept?

Yes, some firms are. But you should push it up if you can and you want to work there.

I have to pay for my own travel expenses. So, changing my flight to next week would cost me an additional $500. Worth it? How bad is it to be this late in Sept for my CB (28th)? Should I just call the recruiter and ask? i.e., would it be beneficial to come sooner?

You should do it sooner if you can. One option available to you is cancelling the flight and receiving airline credit. Then you'd buy a new ticket and use the credit you receive for a future flight. But ask the airline if you can do this.
