Mass mailing at small firms with no recruiting - email hiring partner?

If a small firm doesn't have a recruiting dept., is it acceptable to email the hiring partner directly?
I've sent my materials to "info@lawfirm.com" which seem to be for clients inquiring about services but my career service office told me to send an email directly to the managing partner instead. However, they've been wrong before. Is this credited advice? I feel like a partner would only be ticked off by this.

Definitely send it to a partner, not a general@xyzlaw.com email. 99% of partners, if they aren't the right person, will forward it on to the right person without a second thought. You aren't going to offend anyone.
