Where can I find info on which big law firms have the best partnership prospects?

Are there certain firms that are notorious for having many lateral partners, not much upward movement, etc. and other firms where it would be easier to move up?

You won't make partner, and you don't want to make partner

All of them.

I think wanting to make partner before getting to a firm is like wanting to go into academia before you get to law school. You know it's good but nothing about how it works.

I guess boutiques are your best bet generally. Some of them have more narrow leverage structures. Otherwise spend some time as an AUSA for lit or build some serious connections for corp (both easier said than done). I think the firm itself will have less of an impact on partnership prospects than your personal accomplishments.

You'll work even harder than the associates. Why?

Just to emphasize: your chances are microscopic

*Many* non-NYC biglaw firms offer very realistic chances of making partner. Check out firms in Dallas and Houston in particular.
