Are in-Office Interviews Similar to Screening Interviews?

Hello All,

I know at OCI you have your traditional interview first (screening) before the callback. But what about when you apply directly on the targeted firms' website through their portal after OCI, do they also invite you for a screening first or do they even have screening procedures, or do you just go straight to a callback if selected for an interview after applying on the firms' website?

My best guess would be it differs and after searching here it seems some have gone straight to callback, how does this work? Are they considered lucky, those that go straight to callback and why would they go straight to callback?

Thank You.

In my experience it is about 50/50. If you are in the city already they will probably just call you in for a screener first. If you are outside the city they will usually invite straight to a cb (although sometimes with a long phone call or a Skype screener).

I direct applied to a firm and they did a screener first, then a callback. So some do the screener first.

I did two of these.
For one I had a phone screener. Told them during the call I would be in their city on a date I had another CB, they set me up for a CB on that date and split costs with the host firm.
Another I wrote in my cover letter that I would be in their city on a date. They invited me to a 30 min, 1-person screener while I was in town. Said I could do any later CB by Skype though, which is nice.
