Got a CB at ML and was told that I would have to write an answer to a non-legal question in a 20 minute time frame before interviews started. Any idea what this is all about?

Last year, I think the question was very generic- something to the effect of "Why Morgan Lewis." Hope that helps.

Did this last year in the Philly office. Like the poster above said, it's something along the lines of "Why Morgan Lewis" and asks what you want to get out of the summer, if I remember correctly.

Also, even though the firm offers an opportunity to work in house for half the summer, or do a public interest gig for half the summer, you're better of emphasizing in your essay that you want to stay at the firm for the entire program.

I tend to agree that it can't hurt to stress that you want to stay at the firm all summer at the pre-offer stage but will add the caveat that in my experience, MLB does truly encourage summers to consider the client or public interest programs. That is, it's not some sort of trick to test your commitment to firm work.

So, the recruiter told me that MLB encourages the summers to do the client/public interest programs, but at least three of the associates I interviewed with all said that it's best to just stay at the firm... All I know is my essay mentioned my interest in the client program, and I did not get an offer (although I'm sure there are other reasons for that), so I think it might be safer to just demonstrate interest in staying at the firm.
