How soon is too soon to leave a job?

Hey guys,

I recently joined a firm a few months ago and while I don't mind it here, I don't see myself here long term. I've had 2 previous jobs where I stayed for roughly 2 years each.

It was never a performance issue. My boss from my previous jobs really loved me. It was just that I never liked the location that I lived in.

Would it look really bad if I leave after just a year?

Also does it make me look like a job hopper? If so, does it still matter in today's day and age?

You can leave now if you find the right opportunity.

Two years is fine; jumping three times in the span of 5 years may make people look at you sideways.

I wouldn't stay if you get contacted by your dream job tomorrow asking if you'll make the switch; but I don't know that I would actively try to leave after only a year. Or, if you're going to move this early, make it count (i.e., be prepared to stay where you land for at least 3-4 years; make sure you won't be jumping ship in a year or two again).

Yeah honestly you can leave anytime you have an opportunity that would prefer. Probably want to try as best as possible you land somewhere you see yourself sticking around for a few years. Your resume will start giving the whiff of competence issues/flight risk.

My friend told me I prob could get another job after a year but the problem is that the more you move the more risky you look. Also when there is a job that you really like that you want or if a work environment is really bad and you want to leave it will be difficult to find a new job.
