I'd consider it. Vaguely say that you are considering an offer due next week. They appear like you, it hopefully seems like they just don't know how the numbers might shake out. Saying you have another offer shows that you are in demand (and therefore their initial gut positive impression of you was correct), and they are now under more pressure to say yay or nay. I think this is terrible advice. (I'm on my firm's hiring committee) The reason we put people on the waitlist is that we're not ready to give an offer right now, but we might be willing to give one in a week or two. By creating a false deadline, you force us to make a decision right now, so the answer is almost definitely going to be no. Just be patient.malibustacy wrote:I'd consider it.
