Hello,

While on my way to my first day on the job (Solo practitioner at 40k/yer) I received an offer as an Assistant Law Clerk at the trial court level in NY. The pay is much better and has benefits so I took it. Also, i'm intrigued by clerking and know what they do as I had an internship with a judge my 1L year.

However, I have never heard of an Assistant Law Clerk. This appears to be a position geared to those right out of law school but still offers a nice salary. Does anyone have any experience or can advise me on what to expect? How can I prepare for Day one? Thanks!

Sounds like questions you should have asked before taking the job, but oh well.

-Do you need to pass the NY bar?
-Is the clerk position term limited? For example, I know that federal clerk positions can be limited to four years.
