Establishing ties w/out mentioning religion

So about 9 years ago I went on a mormon mission. I am no longer affiliated with that church, but I also have no real problems with people that are mormons or religious in general. Anyway I am planning on applying for jobs in the states that my mission was in because I really liked that area and would like to live there. I don't really want to bring up religion in my cover letter (or in an interview), but this is my only tie to the area. Should I just say that I have lived there previously for about two years and want to move back and don't include any details? Will it look like I'm lying if I don't include any details?

Just describe the work without being specific. I lived here for two years after college.

I bet you have a hot wife right. Mormon doods always do.

Ha! Thanks. Well on a mission they do say the harder you work the hotter your wife will be...
