Writing Sample for OCI

Rising 2L (whatever that is supposed to mean) at MVPD. I'm working a summer associate position at a larger regional law firm (120 attorneys but not satellite of biglaw office) and although I've written a few obligatory research memos for people, I've been doing mostly transactional work, almost all with the M&A group at the firm and I haven't written any formal memos for that group at all. I have a great writing sample from my 1L legal writing course, which I used to get this summer associate gig, and I think I want to use that as my writing sample for OCI as opposed to something I've written while at the firm this summer.

So, is it weird if I use that writing sample rather than something that I worked on this summer? I've heard of people who used a motion or brief they wrote during their summer at a firm, but I just don't have anything like that aside from some research memos that I would have to heavily edit (don't want to do this, I am working my SA gig up until 2 days before OCI starts). How big of a deal is a writing sample in general? I'm around top 20% and want to do M&A at a biglaw firm (V20 or lower) not sure if that affects anyone's answer to this question. Thanks!
