Re: 3L OCI Thread.
I think you're misunderstanding what I was saying. I didn't say that firms view "strikeouts" the same as people who had SAs. Rather, I was saying that firms don't view people who didn't receive a permanent offer from their 2L government job (i.e. strikeouts) the same as people who did an SA and got no-offered.Anonymous User wrote:The bolded was not my experience. It's probably true that firms do not view "strike outs" the same as "no offers." However, every firm I interviewed with asked me why I chose to work at an agency over the summer instead of a firm (and in some cases, grilled me on that "choice"). So you need to have a strong answer for that question during the interview, if applicable.Anonymous User wrote:You won't be viewed the same. Firms know Fed gov usually doesn't hire out of law school, so they won't hold it against you. So, do not mention this in your cover letter.
In fact, right below that post I said this:
Firms will definitely ask why you worked in gov 2L summer and will probably view you less favorably than someone who did an SA at a different firm and got a return offer.Had a Biglaw SA & got offer ("pre-vetted") >>>>>>>>>> No Biglaw SA ("question mark") >>>>>>>>> Had Biglaw SA but got no-offered ("red flag")

Re: 3L OCI Thread.
So how do you suggest strikeouts answer the question of why they didn't do a 2LSA besides the obvious "because I struck out"?Firms will definitely ask why you worked in gov 2L summer and will probably view you less favorably than someone who did an SA at a different firm and got a return offer.

Re: 3L OCI Thread.
Make the conversation about something that's changed since 2L OCI. If you're pitching yourself to a specific practice group: "I didn't know much about [X practice area] last year, but then I [took Y class/clinic during 2L, did Z during 2L summer] and found out how much I enjoy it."Anonymous User wrote:So how do you suggest strikeouts answer the question of why they didn't do a 2LSA besides the obvious "because I struck out"?Firms will definitely ask why you worked in gov 2L summer and will probably view you less favorably than someone who did an SA at a different firm and got a return offer.

Re: 3L OCI Thread.
Any advice on how to discuss with a biglaw firm you summered at (and received an offer from) why you haven't yet accepted their offer?
Does explaining that you are only applying to one other firm as a 3L soften the blow to the SA firm, or is it better not to be so explicit?

Did you know the partner beforehand and butter him up with the song & dance routine ("just want 'advice,' that's all"), or did you cold email him and in that very first email cut to the chase by attaching your materials and noting that HR should also have a copy as a way to tell the partner that you're interested in a job there?Anonymous User wrote: Applied through Symplicity, also emailed a partner alum (unclear if said person forwarded my docs though).

Re: 3L OCI Thread.
Sent my resume through Symplicity (I believe deadline was July 21). They initially reached out on August 3rd, scheduled callback for yesterday. There were both 2L and 3L candidates there yesterday.Anonymous User wrote:When did you hear from them about scheduling your callback?Anonymous User wrote:Not sure if you're the same anon, but I had Kirkland CB yesterday, offer first thing this morning.Anonymous User wrote:Has anyone else heard anything from Kirkland Chicago?
