If you are looking to possibly "trade up" firms after your SA, when is the appropriate time to mass mail?

And in any way at all, is it possible for your current firm to find out you've been mass mailing?

In a similar situation, would also like to know this.

There's a million threads on this topic, but general wisdom is that you should apply end of July/early August. Also Cravath is the only firm I've heard of that will call you 2L firm asking if you really got an offer, so consider that if you're chasing that V1 prestige. Really want to start a 2016 3L oci thread, btw.

I've been told to wait until you have your offer. August is fine. Before then, firms a) are busy doing 2L recruitment and b) don't know how many 3Ls they need because their current summer associates have not accepted offers yet.

FWIW, I was mass-mailing around this time last year. However, I had struck out the year before.

That said, someone with an SA in last year's 3L OCI thread reported getting interviews this early, so ymmv.

I am currently a SA. Would it be better to start sending emails as soon as possible, or wait until I find out if I get an offer and risk a lot of people getting their apps in before me?
