Finance or M&A for better work/life balance

Hoping to land an offer in a smaller office known for big deals and long hours with high face time (M&A group). I'm an SA now, based in a larger office. Not really scared of the hours and facetime, because the training seems second to none.

Asked if I'd be willing to split time as an associate with M&A and Finance group in smaller office. I'm interested in both groups, and love the office in general because of its small size, location, the people, and quality of the work.

I've visited the office a few times and worked almost exclusively with M&A. Just wondering whether Finance people typically have a better work life balance, since I haven't spent much time in that group this summer, or if they work pretty closely with the deal folks, as far as schedules/timelines.

In terms of ebb and flow/unpredictability of hours, they are pretty similar from what my finance friends tell me (I'm M&A). However, in my experience, face time requirements will completely depend on who the partner is on a particular deal, rather than finance vs. M&A.

Entirely depends on what kind of "Finance" work you are doing.
