Questions on the Detroit Market

I'm considering a lateral to the Detroit market from the LA office of a V50. My SO is from the area and I'm not too worried about demonstrating ties.
I know this has been discussed in prior threads, but a lot of that info is a bit old by now... can anyone comment on top Detroit firms? The names that seem to get a lot of attention are Honigman, Miller Canfield, Dykema, Dickinson, and Bodman. I'm aware of Honigman's meat grinder reputation - other than that, can anyone say which ones may be preferable over the others, which ones are strong in litigation, which are known for what (e.g. longer hours, great culture, etc.).
Also, reliable salary info is hard to come by - the closest to a stated pay scale is the range provided on Honigman's page. Is anyone able to provide even second hand, anecdotal information on current associate salaries? Obviously, salaries are going to be below the (new) big law market in bigger markets, but I'm hoping to get a sense of how much lower.
Thanks a lot for any input.
