Quitting

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Jun 30, 2016 11:46 am

Just got an offer that is going to take me away from my V30 firm to a mid-market firm in a location I much prefer. Anything special I should know about giving notice? I'm not too neurotic about this; I figure the worst they can do is fire me on the spot, but if anyone has any quitting stories to share that might make everything go more smoothly, I'd appreciate it. (I'm a junior associate, btw)

You'll probably get unenthusiastic congrats, please don't go's, and hey remember to finish this assignment before you leave in two weeks. And, if you're unlucky, hey I know you're leaving, but can you get started on this and this before you go.

I have heard of resigning attorneys being given an hour or two to pack their stuff and then being escorted from the building by security. I think in that case it was over a concern that the attorney was staying in the market and might be tempted to bring clients with him. So your case will probably be different. But it could happen...

If you have concerns about their reaction just tell them you need to live in that city for personal/family reasons.
