Does anyone know what the top patent prosecution firms in SF are? This list is so bad: //www.chambersandpartners.com/12059/1556/ ... _editorial. There is no grounding in reality in these ranks. For one thing, I do not understand how Jones Day is above Knobbe and Mofo, much less even on the list.

Check the list of firms who have gone to the San Fran IP fair the last few years. Loyola is the big one, but SF has its own fair and 2nd biggest behind Loyoal (by a large margin but still that's your best bet).

I hope by SF you mean SF/SV because there's not much in SF besides MoFo.

There are others in SF besides MoFo. Knobbe has an office. Kilpatrick has an office. Sheppard Mullin has an office.

Most prosecution practices are not in SF and even the ones there are fairly small practice groups. MoFo might be large. Maybe Kilpatrick Townsend. Maybe Ponsinelli (former Novak Druce attorneys). There are some decent sized boutiques, but they tend not to hire out of law school. Generally, the Bay Area is very fractured when it comes to patent prosecution when compared to other cities. People are constantly moving around, starting their own boutiques, etc. because there are so many clients here.

Also, prosecution is basically the same anywhere. There aren't really top firms. Everyone is basically working on the same stuff for the most part.

I suppose that you can look at patent-savvy clients (the more licensing or litigious companies) and see who they go to. It would be a selection of large, medium, small firms. Some firms focus on start-up work. Those companies pay a lot.
