“No doubt we will be raising as will other firms,” John Quinn, co-founder of litigation powerhouse Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP, said in an email. “This market is very efficient in that way.”

I think we should give firms who follow suit a bit more impressive title than "copycats." After all, the second person gives the first person legitimacy.

Read yesterday and forgot about that. I am going to chalk my (joking) concern up to the fact that I want no excuse for firms to not reach $180K (and for one brave firm to go full Leeroy Jenkins and hit $185K).

Fair point. I'll try to think of a witty twist on the above (when I can clear the head space, after marking up some shoddy work from an SA).

I think would be easier just to include a note next to the Firms that deviate (different scale, regional differences, etc.)

"Kirkland & Ellis is expected to match Cravath’s new pay scale in all of its offices, said a source familiar with the firm."

Obviously this is just conjecture, but do people think lower-tiered big law firms will follow suit in giving a raise in secondary markets? For instance, if my firm pays 130k to new associates, would it have any incentive to raise to 135 or 140 based on what happens with top tier firms?
