Does the rise in base salary make it more likely that firms will no-offer summers or revoke offers from graduating 3Ls?

Probably means fewer partners made over the next year or two. First years more than pay for themselves and a 20k bump isn't going to change that.

One no-offer = nine 20k raises paid for.

Wouldn't it be more likely that they'll just stealth a few slow areas?

soooo if a firm we're at doesn't match, is it easy for a first year associate to lateral to another that does?

I mean, its a sort of interesting question in the abstract: which is the worse reputational harm for a large law firm, keeping salaries below the market rate, or matching only to no offer or slash class size? I almost think staying at $160k would be worse.
Still, you absolutely shouldn't be worrying about this right now, it's only an abstract question.

hypothetically speaking if i were a partner, i'd make it openly known that there would be one sacrificial lamb no-offer to justify the pay raise and watch the ensuing hunger games just for giggles.

You gotta give everyone the choice via blind vote. Either no pay raise or 5% of your colleagues get shitcanned.
(Pay raise wins in a landslide)

Can't lie, this was my first thought too. I'm preparing for a year of partners unapologetically dumping shit on me on Saturday night.

Yeah I don't even want to hint to my wife that pay raises might be coming. She already talks about me going into fedgov or something else that will be a salary and hours cut.
