How aware are firms of GPA cutoffs?
When firms get resumes from school A and school B, how aware are they that School A's 50% is a 3.5 and School B's 10% is a 3.2?

Re: How aware are firms of GPA cutoffs?
Speaking from what I know about my first firm:
Very aware if from a target school
Not at all aware from a TTT, but generally speaking only people who could put "top 1-2 in class" would have a shot anyway.
There's a group of schools between the two where it would probably be very helpful to put "top 5%" or whatever on your resume rather than assuming HR knows if your GPA is good or not.

OP here, thanks guys. I go to a T25 with a median of 3.25 but I know I'll be competing against peer schools that have a median of 3.55

Good chance you'll be at a disadvantage due to your school's choice to not keep up in the grade inflation arms race. A 3.5 looks worse than a 3.8.Anonymous User wrote:OP here, thanks guys. You could consider listing your class rank or the school median on your resume if you think it would help. I'd consult your career center before doing so.

OP here, ending up with a 3.6 which is right at the top 10%...my school has a policy against ranking so the Career office won't met me or give me an official notice of my rank

A local firm that recruits heavily from your school will likely know what gpa means what. A firm in a more distant city will not and you should include your rank on your resume.

Look at the lawyers at the firm. Do they have a lot from your school? They probably are familiar then.
