Just guessing, but wouldn't it be a little hard to start practicing civil law after you spent a few years practicing common law? This was the one thing that jumped out at me. Don't know much about the market or how common this is.

I am doing the same thing. Several Houston firms have satellite offices in New Orleans, and several New Orleans firms have satellite offices in Houston. GET a job, any job, then start planning the future in a year or two. Having the dual bar for Texas & Louisiana is great for oil, gas, & Maritime.

I don't know the answer, but it's something I worry about too

I'm starting practice in a fun area but not where I want to end up. I feel like any bizdev I do is wasted since I doubt most clients will stick with me outta state. Houston to LA isn't too far though so maybe they would.

My only gut feeling is to go where you want to be sooner rather than later so you can start developing a presence in the community etc

In to hear what ppl have to say
