I saw the distributions thread but not a general thread. I know it's still pretty early, but in the spirit of procrastinating my finals prep, I figured I'd make one.

Why is there no option for Detroit?

Because there are only 10 spots, and SplitMyPants is going to add Milwaukee any second now.

Why Miluakee but no Stl D=

Jk I know Stl is nowhere. Checking in. Summering at a local firm. Trying to figure out if I want to stay in a low col place making low 6 figs or head to the meatgrinder cities. I guess the summer will be enlightening.

Yeah.

Edit: Just to clarify a bit, this doesn't necessarily mean "the last day of an SA," or "after the SA has concluded," or "near the end of the SA," as it can vary by firm. But, by and large if not in all cases, it means one of these three possibilities and sometime around the end of an SA.

Does it tend to work the same way for 1L SAs in terms of an offer (or not) for the following summer?

For my 1L SA we ended and had our exit interview mid July. I was called a week and a half later with my return offer.

What about for people who split summers? I'm doing 12 weeks (6+6), and the first firm's summer program goes a max of 8 weeks. Is it safe to assume that the first firm will make offers after the end of their 8 week program, and not wait until the end of the summer?

I think many (most?) first half firms do offers at the end of the first half, but there are definitely some that wait until the end of the summer. If you know any 3Ls who worked there last summer you should ask them what the timing is if you are really curious.

I like how Dallas/Houston get combined to just be Texas.

How did Milwaukee sneak onto the list ahead of Philly?

As far as Dallas/Houston being combined, the rest of the nation still thinks we are riding our horses into the office in cowboy hats and boots. It is ok with me if the secret doesn't really get out. I need us to stay a bit regional with some biglaw opportunities. Don't need all the T14 people rushing down here and squeezing me out of a position.

I figured there's also a non-trivial amount of SA spots in Austin, which then just made sense to combine all three.

lol There was no sneaking. See earlier ITT.
