Hey guys. Does anyone have any thoughts on Davis Polk's Menlo Park office and its corporate practice? How does it stack up against other firms in the area, both in terms of culture and general reputation? Thanks a lot!

They do a lot of public company work, a lot less of the smaller private company work (but this work sometimes sounds cool to law students and is less cool in practice). They have a decent capital markets practice and I've been across from them on several IPOs over the years. My friend's GF, now wife, has been there many years and is very happy. (He and I were at another firm.) It's in a great location for commuting (less so for going out to lunch, unless you count Little Mexico in Redwood City, which has delish tacos, but I digress). If you get an offer there, take it. I would also add that doing public company work is great for exit opps, so you will be well positioned when trying to leave in a few years.

I've also worked opposite them on a couple offerings, they seemed pleasant enough folks and have a good reputation for capital markets, seems like a good option if you want to do that kind of work and live out west.

FWIW, my impression from OCI was a bit sweatshoppy. But I don't have any personal contacts there and didn't receive an offer.
