Side Job

I am federal government attorney - pretty standard 40 hour workweek. I recently took a job delivering pizzas in the evenings - feels a little bit strange but I clear close to $20 an hour (gross) on average and I generally listen to podcasts and help out in the shop if things are slow. Does anyone else work an extra job?

In a law firm setting moonlighting is often grounds for automatic termination. Too much risk of liability.

I hope you disclosed it to your boss.

Agree if the moonlighting is law related. But would this still be the case if you are delivering pizzas?

Honestly not sure. I might be tempted to say that makes it ok, but I would still think disclosure would be necessary. Not sure how working in gov position changes this vs. law firm setting.

I think there's actually an OPM memo somewhere saying that moonlighting is OK as a general matter. Try some googling. (It seems likely that there are special rules re doing outside legal work, though.)
