1st year corporate at a firm where "perfect" is everyone's buzzword. Had a series of fuck-ups on a deal, where we sent flat-out wrong information to a potential acquirer (and it was basically the information about target client was most interested in). Terrified I'd become an untouchable who'd never get work again.

Partner phoned me and told me that mistakes happen, and she remembered what it was like to experience your first big mistake. Also told me she really appreciated me working very late into the night on a corrected draft. When I rotated out she told me everyone in the group would love for me to join them permanently, when my next rotation is finished.

Anyways, I know standards are low for first-years and Biglaw sucks for a lot of reasons but I don't think it makes everyone inhuman. Even the most difficult people have moments of grace, generally.

All of the people I work for/with are amazing, and are some of the most talented people I've ever met, particularly the partners.

That makes it even more remarkable that I don't like my job

i got told i was doing a great job my first year too by a partner and everyone loved me. then i got no bonused, so you might get fucked too. biglaw is really passive aggressive; if you can't read people and understand things, you're gonna get fucked over a lot.

This is a stupid thread. Isn't the whole point of this website is establish that "you're not the special snowflake"?

im derailing what was supposed to be a positive thread and i apologize for that, but this is one of my main dislikes with biglaw - I don't know if it's terrible management skills/partners sucking at running a team or something else but it sucks. im a first year and feel like the nobonus is going to happen to me too, getting positive feedback but can sense passive aggressive bullshit in emails on one of my projects. my firm pays below nyc market and it fluctuates so probably missing out on 5-10k instead of 15, but would love to put that $ to loans. only a couple more years
