Pushing offer deadline back?

Is there a good way to get extension on a deadline to accept an offer?
Whats the best way to encourage a firm to get back to you sooner regarding its offer or no offer due to other offers on the table?
Is it bad to accept an offer at the end of the day on the last day available to accept...do employers view this as disinterest in working for the firm?
advice? comments?

Ask and let them know your situation. Let them know you have an expiring offer. And highly doubtful; recruiting is probably the only ones who actually know, and they almost certainly won't care or forget that you accepted on the last day.
