Re: Kirkland Bonuses?
Also a lateral, also was told I'd "be eligible for" the full bonus even though I was entering once the firm's billable year had already begun. Was told that the "eligible for" caveat just meant I needed to be in good standing, etc. The letter I got today was not consistent with that and I emailed the link provided in the cover email to ask what happened. May just have been an oversight by someone who forgot to coordinate with the lateral recruitment office. If not, then, well..Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Dec 20, 2022 8:32 pmAny lateral associates in this thread?
I got my comp memo but it’s silent on bonus, which is guaranteed per my offer letter. Is it usual for the memo to be silent but funds still paid?

Is the merit bonus $5,000 for all class years? Would’ve thought it’d be $10,000 lame

Forthose wondering about laterals - I’m a lateral NSP and had market bonus guaranteed in my offer letter, and my memo included bonus. 1.25, below 2000 annualized

Yeah, they sent me the assurance in writing by email, and at the time I didn't think to ask them to re-write the offer letter itself.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 2:43 amSame here. Re: Kirkland Bonuses?
IDK, I read eligible as "we might decide to give you the full bonus, we might not". Other offer letters specifically guarantee full bonus. Big difference between eligible and guarantee.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Dec 20, 2022 8:50 pmAlso a lateral, also was told I'd "be eligible for" the full bonus even though I was entering once the firm's billable year had already begun. Last year I know a lateral who's memo was silent but still got the full bonus payment - but their offer letter guaranteed bonus. Re: Kirkland Bonuses?
Kirkland having its billable year end in August creates uncertainty for laterals who join between 9/1 and 12/31. For those people, their offer letter may guarantee a bonus for a billable year that already ended and leave uncertain the next calendar year’s bonus.

Re: Kirkland Bonuses?
So instead of the black box multiples, they moved to
market + ($2k for hitting 2000 hours) + ($1k for every additional 100 hours)? So the Kirkland shatters bonus for 2400 hours would be $6k?
That can't be right.

Re: Kirkland Bonuses?
I guess as a person at another V10, for all the sturm und drang about Kirkland (the huge growth, the A-list partner poaching, the culture, blah blah), the bonuses end up beating my firm by like 10% or less for most people? Which comes out to like 2-3% as measured from total compensation?

Re: Kirkland Bonuses?
How do you bill 2550 hours without really wanting to and not caring about the money/time ratio? I mean it can't be that hard to either turn down new work or lateral away. If I'm billing 2550 hours it better be a 2x bonus or whatever.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 3:44 pmWell I'm at a Cravath-paying firm and I billed 2550 and got exactly Cravath. Re: Kirkland Bonuses?
That's the most reasonable way to read most of the discussion so far, but a comment a couple of pages back makes me think the "merit" bonus is independent of the multiplier....? Maybe.Dr Tobias Funke wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 3:57 pmSo instead of the black box multiples, they moved to

Re: Kirkland Bonuses?
Really weird that no one has chimed in yet with a better explanation. In years past there would be 4 pages of posts comparing hours/years/ratings with clear explanations of multipliers and total bonus by now. Kirkland, are you ok?!Wanderingdrock wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 7:32 pmThat's the most reasonable way to read most of the discussion so far, but a comment a couple of pages back makes me think the "merit" bonus is independent of the multiplier....?
