Doj hiring

Does anyone know what this process looks like in a non-honors context? Like if I'm a current clerk, do they move comparably quickly with applications as large law firms? If not, is it a good idea if there's a spot I'm interested in to reach out to a contact at the part I'm interested in to say that I've applied, or is that inappropriate for a place like the doj?

If you clerked out of law school, you are still eligible for the honors program. Technically, the honors program is faster hiring than non-honors hiring. I've heard a range of 7 to 18+ months from application to actual offer. Good luck!
