This makes me happy only because it'll make Skadden bros very angry.

I'm assuming this means that they excluded any attorneys from the firms' lit department and limited it to the U.S. offices only.

From the article "We then looked at the educational background of all these firms’ US-based attorneys in the relevant departments or practices (M&A, Securities, Private Equity, Banking, Finance, and so on"

I think it's because Kirkland Chicago takes a ton of NU students, which probably pulls down its average a bit.

Looks right as a proxy for law student prestige. Skadden is typically considered TTT among T14 OCI participants

Tbf, Skadden is likely dragged down just bc it's massive and has offices all over the place (see also Latham), while the numbers at firms such as Cravath and DPW are juiced by having the bulk of/all of their associates in their most well-regarded office.

This would be more interesting if they also provided data excluding satellite offices.

OMG I can just see the freaking OL's making law school freaking decisions because of some stupid report that has rankings in it. This deserves absolutely no discussion other than ridicule. (But also deserving of really ridicule is V5 associate as a username. ) I can't take it.
I've only been back again for a little while but this is just too much. The disconnect between The press Stege whoring and doing actual work, people who get jobs, whatever, is just too great. It's like this endless wavethat keeps building without any real facts to support it

I feel like big law could do better if they grabbed up enough students at top schools to still get the prestige boost with clients but also grabbed up a ton of the striviest strivers from low ranked schools to bill shitloads of hours.

The reaction ITT is a bit bizarre. Those numbers shouldn't be a surprise to people nor should they be so lambasted. They provide information. Whether that information is considered useful is up for debate but it's information that is no different than Vault rankings, Law School rankings, etc. And yes, why shouldn't prospective law student consider all available information in deciding which school/firms they wish to commit to?

All information is good and useful. Let the individual prioritize which is most useful as they see fit.

Nice anon!
Not all information is useful. A lot of information from schools is actively misleading, like saying they admit holistically and not just numbers or that they only consider the firstLSAT score or they average them .(Quick aside, has any school ever publshed the bimodal salary curve and explained it on their website) I didn't say that Vault rankings or US News rankings were worthwhile either. My bet is most 0 Ls don't know that vault rankings are at best NYC transactional rankings.Just putting a list together doesn't mean it's useful, helpful or should have bearing on choosing a school.

Agreed and I did corporate but that was the limit of my ambition.

For the sake of the 0Ls maybe you could make a list of prestigious jobs. Make sure the rankings are clear. And maybe list which schools the grads come from and possibly include the number of books in the library at those schools. Peer rankings should factor in as well. You could call it the ultimate prestige list. Or possibly the Ne Plus Ultra.

IMO working at wachtell is one of the most prestigious things someone can do right out of law school.
