3L OCI after SA?

Is there any point to doing this? I'm sure the SA will be fine, and it's at a firm I really like. But there are maybe one or two other firms I'd like to check out. Problem is, I interviewed at these firms before, and my grades can't really get much better (~5% HYS, law review after 1st year, and stayed same after 2L 1st semester). I feel like I sank a few of the interviews due to being a moron interviewer at the start of the process--I dramatically improved towards the end.
So is there any point to interviewing with these guys again, or should I just call it good? I'm mainly trying to figure out if it's worth messing around with my summer plans to fit in a day or two at OCI.

Most of the 3L hiring action doesn't happen through OCI as such. No harm in sending out a few emails and seeing how it goes.

So I should just fire off a few emails to the recruiting departments mid- to late-summer and call it good?

I'd probably wait until the SA has started at least to see how that goes
If you're just thinking of climbing the ladder from Davis Polk to Cravath just for the sake of ladder climbing then I wouldn't bother. Or, at least wait to make sure that you hate Davis Polk.
IMO

Until you get an offer, plan to do OCI if any firms are looking at 3Ls.
Unfortunately, I know a handful of people who got no-offered and didn't go through OCI thinking the offer was in the bank. Some were able to get something anyway, but some didn't (at least to my knowledge).

It depends on how badly you want to switch I suppose.
My point was more that you shouldn't worry about having to block off a few days for OCI if that's your main concern.

E-mail/Call/Network
I got several interviews and offers by doing this after my SA in NYC.

No harm in trying if you want, but the likelihood of getting a top firm to give you an offer as a 3L, or even interview you as a 3L, is very small if they rejected you as a 2L. There's nothing obvious that has changed, and too little time has elapsed, since they made that decision. If you're planning to clerk, you'd probably have a better chance applying again at that point. Many firms have organized clerk hiring programs and they're more likely to reconsider someone they previously rejected in that context.

So top 5% at HYS and law review... I'm sure the firm you landed is top notch. Grass is not always greener on the other side. But the PRESTIGE of Wachtell is appealing.

You generally need to bid around a month before the programs end, which is annoying because until you get an offer you have to bid, and by the time you get one it's too late to cancel so in the end 3L OCI is a waste for your time and the interviewing firm's time, and hurts your friends. But you still have to bid until you get an offer.
