Changing markets

Hello all-

I know that a big piece of advice given to rising law students is to go to school in the market you want to practice in (unless t14). My question is about something that I'm genuinely curious about: How often do attorneys change markets once their career is established? Outside of barriers to entry such as retaking the bar, how easy/how often does an attorney in, say, Atlanta, decide to pack it up and move to Boston 5-10 years into his career? or is it not really seen in this profession?

Not sure many people would leave once they have a career going but I'm sure some people do it

I can't comment on firm-hopping, but I know of at least seven people from my fed gov office who've left for jobs in other states who've left for jobs in other states in the last 5 years or so, many of them very far away. It's probably easier for fed attorneys to move from one federal office to another, though.

Every firm (all non-NYC) I've been at has a significant %age of people that came from either other firms in other states or from offices of the same firm in other states.
