Maybe a dumb question re: fed gov Honors

Sorry, but just want to clarify... when someone is talking about, for instance, a DOJ Honors position, is one to infer that the person is referencing an after-law school, full-time, but not permanent position... as opposed to someone referencing an [insert fed gov agency here] Summer Honors position, which is just a full-time summer internship?
If that's correct, can someone clarify the difference between a Summer Honors internship and a SLIP position?
Thanks in advance.

The answer to both of your questions is that names vary between agencies. DOJ Honors refers to the postgrad hiring program and not to the DOJ internships (SLIP). But EPA for example has a summer internship program for which they use the term "Summer Honors."
But also keep in mind that even if there are established terms, people might vary in their usage. E.g. I know people who use the words "clerk" and "clerking" to refer to their summer judicial internships, sometimes because even some judges will use the terms that way. So I wouldn't be surprised if someone who was a SLIP intern referred to himself as an "honors intern" or something similar.

Also, many DOJ Honors positions are permanent.

Also note that "Summer Honors" program meanings are inconsistent throughout the federal government. While some agencies like the EPA just use the term as a glorified summer intern, other agencies use the term to signal that they typically hire from the summer pool. As with all fedgov programs do research and YMMV.
