favabeansoup wrote:So I noticed a thread in here awhile ago about dating while you are in Biglaw. Basically people were saying meaningful dating/relationships are really tough. I'm wondering how this applies to dating other BigLaw associates, and if people have had success in those situations.

I'm a current 3L with a biglaw offer, and my SO of 4 years also received a biglaw offer in the same city. She goes to a different law school, so we've been long distance except for the summers when we lived together.

We are thinking that if it was a situation where one of us had to work crazy/unpredictable hours, it would be really hard on our relationship. However, since both of us are, it actually won't be that bad because we can fully understand what other is going through.

Has anyone had/heard stories of long-term successful relationship with both people working in biglaw? Are there any maybe unique problems to relationships in BigLaw that people don't normally think of?

Edit: For those wondering, no plan on getting married any time soon (don't feel the need), and don't plan on having kids for at least 4-5 years, if even.
TLDR but no

A surprising number of people I met last summer during my SA in a secondary market were married to associates at other firms.

I say "secondary" bc of the usual association with a secondary and better QoL. From what I can tell in the case of this secondary, however, that idea is a total flame. So take that fwiw.
