i'm considering accepting a position as the staff attorney for a state court judge. the judge handles both a criminal and a civil docket. i'm interested in litigating long-term. currently stuck in the small firm rut (cannot seem to get into a decent firm). been out of school 4 years.

what are thoughts on this move? from what i know, a decent chunk of staff attorneys are lifers. i dont think that's what i want to do; id probably like to do it for a couple years and then either open my own shop or hire into a decent firm. but im not sure a law firm would be interested at that point.

any thoughts?
