When to Add Co-workers on LinkedIn?

Hey boys and gals, I'm currently fortunate enough to have an internship in an area of practice I would like to break into eventually (think AFTER working at a firm for 3-5 years). From the research I've done and what I've heard, its quite hard to get into, so I'd like to solidify the connections as much as I can while I'm here.

It's probably not the biggest deal, but I figured being connected on Linkedin to a bunch of the people there would help, anyone know what etiquette is? Do people typically wait till after the internship ends to add them? Is it weird if I add them now? I've been working there since August and its a year internship...

I'd appreciate any advice!

(Also I assume people will knock on this, but I'd rather do as much as I can to help my chances. To all those people, see below:

From my experience, I think the appropriate time to add a coworker on Linkedin is when you have actually held a conversation with that person.

In the legal internship context, I've only have added co-workers who I've asked to be future references.

The most natural time to add co-workers is actually when you're leaving, under the guise of staying in touch. I would second the advice that you should not add colleagues from the same office/firm that you don't actually know. Some people are more loose with LinkedIn--they'll Link with anyone, whereas some folks will only Link with someone whose work product they can speak to. Personally, I will link with anyone I know well enough, because three or four years later, you may want to contact them, but Linking while you are looking for a job is way more awkward than just checking in with a current connection. Hope that helps.

Followed by an endorsement for their "interviewing" skills.
