Hi all,

I'm wondering what the BigLaw employment prospects in NYC/Cali would be like for a Canadian lawyer who, at some point after articling on Bay Street (ie Canadian Wall Street), pursues an LL.M. at a reputable university in NYC or California (NYU, Columbia, UCLA, Berkley, etc.).

You really need to ask to speak with alumni (not the admissions people) from the LLMs you are considering. There are only a few LLM programs, no matter how good the school, that are actually worth the cost. Most people say not to get an LLM if you aren't doing Tax. I have seen people hired to firms I've worked at from Berkeley and Duke for Entrepreneurship and BU's Banking LLM. I don't do tax, but people usually say NYU and U of F are the best programs. Again, do not trust Admissions. Most LLM programs are moneymakers for schools with very poor placement and no real path to actual firm recruitment because the LLMs cannot participate in OCI like JDs do.
