A long story short, will need to rescind an acceptance at a firm after receiving an offer from a firm that is directly in line with my career goals and just overall a much better firm. I'm already pretty set on accepting, so now just want to know how to do this--email with offer for them to call for further explanation? Cold call with no warning and let them know then? In person?
Help!!

Call the hiring partner (or whoever extended the offer) and tell them your circumstances have changed and you will not be able to work there. If s/he probes, be tactful, honest and concise. Then follow up with an email to recruiting letting them know and noting you spoke with the partner.
It's really not a big deal unless you make it one. This kind of thing happens all the time.

I had to do this last year and just did the above. I felt a little nervous before the phone call but it's really not a big deal. Two minutes and it's done.
