Is it weird to mention girlfriend in interview?

3L in the Vale -- done TONS, probably at least a hundred
law interviews at this point over my 3 years
When interviewing with a firm, would it be odd/offputting to use a girlfriend to establish ties? I feel like the connotation with "girlfriend" is kinda unimportant/transitory opposed to a wife or maybe fiance and they might just think you're bullshitting or something idk
Thoughts? Ty

I don't know about bullshitting, but I don't think they'll much care that your girlfriend went to UG in that city or her uncle lives there. If you got to visit the city because of your connection to her, that's worth mentioning.

If your girlfriend wants to live in the area for a long period of time and you are willing to move there and be there long-term because of her, yes, mention it.
Also, put a ring on it. that'll help establish ties.

depends a lot on context and delivery. if it's really your best tie into the local area I would probably mention it along the lines of, "I've spent a lot of time in X visiting with my SRS girlfriend's family and I have fallen in love with her family and her hometown," etc, etc.

this is a no brainer.
Or say you called it off; irreconcilable differences between the sheets. No shame in the truth.

I'd use the word partner with a "she" thrown in. More official, but without mislabeling her as fiancé when she has no ring yet.

Or realize that by the time you start, no one will fucking remember.

Probably odd. Hopefully, you'll have more to talk about than this.

Why throw in the "she"? And do you mean fiancée? I can't tell if your two points are supposed to be related...

My 2l SA is near my, as stated in the interview, "Now girlfriend, soon to be fiancé."
Are you worried they'll stand up in their chair then tell you to get out b/c this interview is about you, and not your girlfriend?

1) So pathern doesn't think you're a gay boi
2) to connote a serious relationship but leave it ambiguous
3) they aren't but kinda are

I always got weird "oh congratulations?!" when I used this one. Settled on partner/significant other.

If she is genuinely a "soon to be fiancée" then just say fiancée. No one cares if you're engaged or just engaged to be engaged. Otherwise, "partner" may be credited, though no joke I think this is a less good idea in a conservative area for two reasons. One is they might think you're gay. Two is even if they get that you're straight, they'll think "partner" is some twee millennial affectation for people who reject social conventions like "marriage." Neither one is a big deal in NYC or SF. Houston or Atlanta, maybe not the best impression.

regarding (2), i'm pretty sure kartelite was referring the fact that fiancé refers to a man, while fiancée (with the extra "e") refers to a woman. it's a silly french thing.

I don't think it's weird to say that you're looking in that city because your significant other works there. But I'd call her that sort of term to imply seriousness.
