NY Bar - February vs July (UBE)

Background: Took CA bar in July (waiting to hear back on results), began work at my firm's office in NY (personal reasons brought me to NY). Doing transactional work.
The plan I had discussed with the firm was to take NY in February. I would be given 2 weeks paid off + any vacation days I wanted to tack on before that.
The firm put me in touch with another associate who had taken the bar while working and, during our first contact, she advised me I ought to ask the firm to let me take the UBE in July instead.
Is this too bold to ask?
Pros: UBE is easier and its strictly MBE subjects. July would likely be slower and it would be during my 2nd rotation (I doubt I will enjoy or join that group, ultimately).
Cons: MBE material not as fresh from past July studying. Bold question to ask of the firm.
Any thoughts?
