I landed a job for the second half of my 2L summer at a small/mid firm where I'd be very happy to work after graduation. The problem is that their program only runs during the last half of the summer. I'd like to work during the first half of the summer, even if only to just keep busy, but I don't really know how to approach looking for a job for the first half of the summer only. Most threads I see on TLS on the topic of splitting involve making the decision whether to split because the poster wants a second job. But in my situation, the split is kind of forced on me (since a full summer offer from some other firm didn't seem likely enough for me to play fast and loose with the offer I accepted). Should I be up front about my situation when I'm applying to other positions or should I wait until they extend an offer? Also, does anyone know of types of jobs that tend to run for half a summer (ex: could it be said that, say, non profits are more likely to have half summer jobs than firms)?

Does the firm offer? And if so, do they no-offer? If the answers are Yes and No, you might want to look for SSC or other judicial internship (or relevant state agency internship) for which you can pull down some class credit and make that 3LOL even more 3LOLier.

As far as who's more likely to split, it seems that Texas is a lot more split-friendly than the rest of the country, largely because it's the Texas biglaw firms that split, and it trickles down.

Oh man, I hadn't thought about the class credit angle. That's a solid idea.

Help me out, though: what does SSC stand for?
