Emailing Someone Who Also Had CB W/ Firm

During a CB I was told by an interviewer that he/she is interviewing someone else from my school later that day and provided me with this student's name. Interviewer wanted to know if I knew the student. I don't First of all, how often does this happen? Is the interviewer sending some sort of indirect message to me or he/she is curious about this other student?

Main question: its been a while since the CB (not long enough to follow up with recruiter yet). I'm anxious and very curious as to what is going on. Would it be okay to reach out to the other student and ask if he/she is comfortable with comparing notes and/or progress? Or would someone take offense to that?

Thanks!

I don't think it's offensive to ask, but I think you're overthinking the interviewer asking if the name was familiar. I don't think it was some covert attempt to get info from you

Answer to main question--no, I don't think that anyone would take offense. Though I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish by talking with the other person other than to ease your mind. You aren't in control of the situation anymore--what happened at the CB happened and it is in the firm's hands now. Go do something fun or work on your admin outline or whatever.

OP here - So I did email the other person last week, no response.

Yes, the main purpose of this was to ease my mind. I thought the other person might not mind comparing notes now that it is out of our hands. Also, I am particularly curious about this CB because I really liked the firm but is getting the silent treatment after I followed up with recruiter. Was wondering if the other person was able to get a timeline, got the offer, or still waiting like.

Thanks for answering my silly question though!

Why did you follow up with the recruiter?

I had someone do this to me and I do think it's kinda offensive if you are not already friends with a person. It's a but like asking what someon'es grade was I feel like. One of you will probably come out of the conversation feeling shitty and getting that info is not that important unless you really have not heard and have another offer you need to accept. It will not ease your mind and it might make the other person feel shitty. Don't be that guy.
