The Texas BLE is actually really helpful over the phone, so maybe give them a call, but in reading that, it looks like as long you're an admitted lawyer in another state and have been actively practicing for at least five years, you're exempt from having to take the Texas bar (which is a beating, by the by).

I would fight very hard not to have to take it, it's supposedly one of the more difficult ones. It totally sucks, although I have no basis for comparison.

Texas is about the 14th most difficult (tied with many other jurisdictions) bar exam based upon MBE score required.

If the other attorneys telling you that you must sit for the Texas bar are relatively new to the practice of law, then they may not have enough years of practice to be admitted by motion. Also, for those needing to sit for the Texas exam, Texas does not accept transferred MBE scores.
