During my 2019 OCI the starting rate at Bernstein Shur was $90k. I'd be surprised if it's above $100k now, probably still 90-95.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 3:37 pmBump. Wanted to see if there’s been any movement by Portland firms on salary recently.

I assume clerkship bonuses typically don't happen in Maine (please correct me if that's a bad assumption). Anyone know if getting class year/salary year credit for time clerking is a thing?

They might give a bonus/class credit, but I doubt you’ll find info regarding a “market standard” like you would for bigger markets. The problem is that there’s only like 5 Portland firms (Bernstein Shur; Pierce Atwood; Drummond Woodsom; Preti Flaherty; Verrill) and they each hire 2-3 summer associates a year, 90% of whom go to Maine Law, or went to Bates, Bowdoin, or Colby. It’s a very small and insular market, and firms typically require strong ties to Maine. Hopefully someone at one of those firms will be able to chime in b/c it’s unclear if these firms are even lockstep.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 5:13 pmI assume clerkship bonuses typically don't happen in Maine (please correct me if that's a bad assumption). Rudman Winchell in Bangor salary starts at around $90k. My understanding is this is about where the big 5 in Portland stand as well, as well as Eaton Peabody & Murray Plumb and Murray.
