Trying to figure out budget for NYC biglaw next year. What do people average paying for their monthly insurance premiums? I know it can vary by family size and if spouse is also covered, but assuming single. I've heard numbers from all across the board $70-$400/month.

I'm still on my parents' plan, but I think my firm ranges from ~$200-250.

Depends in large part if you have a "regular" plan (where you only pay a co-pay when you visit a doctor) or if you have a high deductible plan (where you pay everything until you reach your deductible but can also put ~$3000/year into a pre-tax HSA). Premiums are generally higher for the former and lower for the latter. I have the latter and pay ~200/month for health/vision/dental and my deductible is $1200, so effectively $300/month before the insurance pays for anything (though I pay the "insurance rates" up to that point, and putting money into the HSA means I'm only paying about 65 cents on the dollar for that $1200 deductible). Not sure what premiums would be for a more regular plan -- my firm doesn't provide that option.

I opt for the high-deductable plan ($2500 deductable/year) and pay $100/month for medical, and $30/month for dental+vision.

My firm's is about $350 a month for an HMO. (But it is much less expensive for me to be on my husband's PPO, which is also much much better, so I decline healthcare coverage from my firm.)

$350-450 a month for non high-deductible, which varies depending on the plan (EPO, PPO type). In other words, it's crap.
