Anyone have any info outside the easy to find on these firms in NYC? R&H is headquartered in NYC and tends to do a little more work transactional wise. Caplin is headquartered in DC and the NYC office is small (can't decide if a positive or negative). Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Can't speak to Caplin but R&H has a strong focus on high net worth individuals and the related (think family partnerships, estate and trust, and controversy). Real estate is also a relatively big practice (RE also tends to be family-controlled).
So if you like individual tax issues, R&H can be great place. However the prospect of lateral into the tax departments of non-tax firms may be very limited, because typical law firms just don't have the same kinds of client and work.
