Has anyone received an offer from this office? If so could you please post your timeline? I haven't been able to find anything on here just using search

Have you looked at the UT oci thread? I can't remember off top of my head but I think there may have been offers given

i did my CB more than two weeks ago and still haven't heard anything.

it looks like they are either not hiring, or act exceptionally slow

They are hiring (I know someone with an offer there).

Keep in mind though that the Houston office is really small. Last summer I believe they only had 4-5 SA's

and i remember one of my interviewers told me they don't plan to hire all SAs. I remember them telling me they hire 3 outta 4 or 4 outta 5 or 3 outta 5. Not sure whether that's true but it's something to check before accepting their offer

I do not think this is true at all. Think about it for a second. Why hurt its 100% offer rate reputation for a satellite (albeit growing and busy) office? Makes no sense. STB only no offers the truly awkward and/or mediocre like any other "100% offer rate" firm. What's possible though is that they will hire fewer summers for Houston.

what you said makes sense but i was just stating what i heard during the interview. Doesn't hurt to double-check it before you accept the offer :D if you have one already, Congrats!

How many of you would pick STB Houston over your existing offers (if you have one or more already)?

Assuming they sign off on a second half of summer split, I'd pick STB Houston.

i seriously doubt that. but it doesn't hurt to ask if you have an offer

Why the doubt? I thought split summers were SOP in Texas.

I think STB either (1) hate split because they are a NY not a TX firm; (2) they only do first half.

I remember reading from somewhere on TLS that more firms are switching to first half only or not allowing split.

but again, it doesn't hurt to ask, the worst answer is no and you can enjoy a 3 week break before school starts..

TITCR. I believe all 4 summers got offers in Houston. Whether they all accepted is a different matter (maybe a clerkship or something?). Also, the Houston office isn’t just growing - according to presentations we had in NY, Houston is STB’s most profitable office. They are likely just very picky about who they give offers to and like any other small biglaw office, probably only have a few offers out at a time so their yield doesn’t get messed up.

Source: was at STB this summer and knew the people in Houston.

Good to know. Is there any way you can get a little inside info about their hiring progress? how long it too you last year to get the offer?

I knew the people in Houston but I can't really speak to the Houston hiring practices. As to general STB timelines, people usually got offers within a week of the callback (generally 1-2 days). For satellites I think it possibly went longer (1+ weeks), especially if you're on hold.

Because they want to (and can) be very selective, I would venture that they have been waiting to interview the entire applicant pool before extending offers.

anyways, did you do a first half with them or a full summer? Are you going back (if you don't mind me asking)?

Sorry, neither. I'm just an applicant now in the same boat as you. Just speculating.

Call them up and tell them you have an expiring offer
