I mean, mathematically it must have, if only by a small percentage.
But I bet it has also made a significant and noticeable impact. Its not like I have data. But, I've noticed a lot of the postings on the GW Simplicty for 2L/3L gigs are now "confidential" instead of listing the employer.

I think its made Mass mailing harder for people on the margins because students with better grades are utilizing it.

Back in my day there were more than 15% more law students graduating every year. There's no way TLS job application advice increased apps more than the decimation (woah look at that appropriate usage of the word) of law school class sizes reduced them.

I think TLS job advice could definitely increase mass mail apps that much and even more. How many people at your school massmailed back then and how many did they mail? I know multiple people that mailed 300-400+ and that can directly be attributed to people attesting to getting interviews from TLS. I wouldn't be surprised if more than 50% of my class reads TLS casually for job advice.
I of course wasn't applying back whenever, but I think TLS has opened up the extremes/ pushing people well ranked into massmailing.

Has TLS's adoption of "don't go/retake" hurt shit law schools in a material way? Find out on the next episode of dragon ball z!

I came here to post what thesealocust said
Mass-mailing today is gonna be way more effective than mass-mailing in 2012 simply because of the denominator of potential mass-mailers.

It still takes quite some time for people who end up mass mailing to start. I know a lot of friends doing it right not, but almost all began after they did poorly/struck out at EIP, rather than do it beforehand.

CCN student here. I started mass mailing in the last two weeks of July, sending 120 applications total. I got 1 screener and 1 CB. I redrafted my cover letters multiple times after having OCS continually revise it too. Not a great rate.

Granted I'm at a much lower school, but I've sent out over 600 apps and I've recieved nothing. Similar boat to you.

That's basically how MMing always was, but look, one CB can lead to one offer, and if you're sitting on 0 CBs, that's worth 120 apps, isn't it?

Yeah that's a mass mail success story.

Above anon again. That wasn't supposed to be a humblebrag. I had read someone mention that 1 CB per 30 mass mails was about normal.

This was actually surprising to me. I've met two, and they both refused to mass mail even though I begged them to do so. One even found a career services officer to validate his laziness.

Whoever wrote what you read is way off - at least compared to just about every experience that has been posted on TLS

I'd say that I received about two callbacks total from about 80 or so massmails. One of them from a Delaware firm, which I didn't quite expect. Turned them down now since I was lucky enough to turn my one EIP callback into an offer, but you gotta mail hard and cast a wide net. Both mm callbacks were from non-vault firms.

ya it's way off
mayb that person was talking about 1L mass mail (tho it's still an unrealistic # for most students)
or a highly targeted mailing
